Residential air duct cleaning is the process of cleaning the air ducts in a residential building, such as a house or apartment, to remove dust, debris, and other contaminants that accumulate over time. Air ducts are the passages that distribute heated or cooled air throughout a building, and they can become clogged with dirt, dust, pollen, pet hair, and other debris. This can negatively impact the indoor air quality, and can also cause HVAC systems to work harder and consume more energy.
The process of air duct cleaning involves several steps. First, the HVAC system is turned off and the air ducts are inspected to determine the extent of the cleaning required. Then, the ducts are cleaned using specialized tools and equipment, such as brushes, air whips, and high-powered vacuums, to dislodge and remove the accumulated debris. Depending on the level of contamination, some ducts may require more thorough cleaning or even disinfection.
After the cleaning is complete, the HVAC system is turned back on, and the technician will check to ensure that the air flow is restored to normal levels.
It’s recommended that residential air duct cleaning be done every 3-5 years, or more frequently if the occupants have allergies or respiratory issues. Regular cleaning of air ducts can improve indoor air quality, reduce energy consumption, and extend the lifespan of HVAC systems.
